MOSES, Rosemary (Meshake) - Passed away peacefully with her husband and her family by her side on April 14, 2024, at the Thunder Bay Regional Hospital.
Rose is survived by her loving husband Garland of 40 years. Loving mother of Suzanne, Miigwan and daughter-in-law Michelle. Loving Nana to Kaitlyn and Elaina (children of her late son Raymond). Loving sister to Tom, Margaret and Eric. Loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Predeceased by her parents Ambrose and Susan (Megan) Meshake, her in-law parents Antoine and Clara (Desmoulin) Moses. Her beloved son Raymond Moses. Her brother Patrick Meshake and sister Janet Meshake.
Rose worked all of her life in the Educational Sector. Rose graduated from Lakehead University gaining her teachers degree and became the Ojibway Teacher for many years at Pic River Elementary School in Biigtigong Nishnaabeg. Rose then gained her diploma in the ECE Program at Cambrian College and worked at the day care in Biigtigong for many years to follow up to her retirement. Rose was raised on the Pow Wow trail and was recognized as a great mentor to many jingle dress dancers of all ages. Rose shared her gift of dancing and the teachings gained through life with everyone she met. Rose became a very knowledgeable and respected Elder throughout Pow Wow Country. She grew up living off the land and used this knowledge to incorporate the teachings within the Ceremonies she conducted for many years mentored by our late Elders Proddy and Collete Goodchild of Biigtigong. In the last few years of her life, she traveled with her husband Garland to many First Nation communities offering their knowledge and wisdom, helping people deal with their loss and grief, utilizing their past experience with the loss of their son Raymond.
Rose will be arriving in Biigtigong Nishnaabeg at St. Francis Xavier Church on April 18, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. All Family and Friends are welcome to visit when she arrives. Final Traditional Services will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 1:00 p.m. The Moses family wish to extend their gratitude to the staff of EMS Services, The Wilson Memorial General Hospital in Marathon and The Thunder Bay Regional in Thunder Bay for their kindness and exceptional care.
