Dear Uncle Syd, I am so grateful for having known you. I remember all the years as children we visited your camps at Mulligans Bay and Borden Lake. You always had something fun for us to do. You were so kind and helpful you were the best Uncle ever. Will miss you so much but know you are in heaven where we will meet again. Your nephew Ben.

Dear Syd, There is so much I want to say but it would take so many pages to tell you how I feel. But all the memories I have of us on hunting and fishing trips will remain with me forever. I will never forget you and will think of you the remaining years of my life. You were always an inspiration and hero to me. Your Brother-in-law Robert.

When we heard that Syd had passed the world grew dimmer but the heavens shone brighter that day. He was a wonderful Brother-in-law and a kind, generous Uncle to our Children and Grand-Children. We will miss him every day and he will be the first person we seek out when we cross over. Our deepest love and condolences to my sister Gail O'Riley, his son Shawn and his Grandson Shane from Robert, Marilyn, Jonathan, Benjamin, Cameran, Robyn, Selena, Leon and Eli.

We are heart broken over the news of Sydney's passing. We have known him and Gail for decades!
We had good times visiting each other over the years, playing cards, went prospecting at one point but unfortunately we didn;t hit the mother load!
He was a good and kind friend and was always nice to be around.
He will sadly be missed but not forgotten.
May he Rest in Peace!
Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with Gail, Shawn and Shane.

Uncle Syd was an outstanding man. He loved his wife with his whole heart and showed that everyday. Anyone could see how even after 50 years of marriage how mad he was about Gail.
I always remember how he was a perfect gentleman. He never failed to drive right up to the doors at the store to drop off Auntie
Gail then proceeding to go park the truck. He was always there to open every door, pull out every chair and put on every coat. His love and devotion to Gail was something i've never seen before. I grew up dreaming of one day being half a lucky to find someone who loved me the way he loved his wife.
Uncle Syd always made his burning love known everyday but extra special on holidays and anniversaries with beautiful love letters and the most perfect flowers.
During the funeral service, Father Herves said we must carry on spiritually, doing things Syd did, or would do, to honour him.
Over the last week I have been practising this. When Gail and I arrived at Walmart I thought of Uncle Syd, and thought, I would drop my Auntie off at the front of the store to let her out and i would go park and meet her inside. This was something Syd always did.
I knew that today (February 14) would be a hard day for Auntie Gail as it is her first Valentines Day without Uncle Syd. I had a "valentines day" flower arrangement delivered to her surprise today. Syd would have showered her with love and flowers on this day and i thought this is a great way to honour him.
Uncle Syd, you will be so missed and forever remembered. You have touched so many people, and I will continue to honour you in any way i can
Rest in Peace <3

I will always remember my Uncle Syd as a hardworking, loyal, kind man. He had a heart that was bigger than anyone I will ever know in my lifetime. His morals, work ethic, and love for his family made him such a beautiful soul. I will never forget what he taught me. " If you do a job, do it right. Treat people with respect, and always be early for work. Never look down on anyone, because you never know what someone else is going through." Truly wise words.
My first job was working for my Uncle Syd and Aunty Gail at Syd's Service Station. This taught me more than anyone will ever know. My Uncle was a very important part of my life, and I will miss him dearly. His love for his Wife Gail, Grandson Shane, and his Son Shawn were immeasurable. I will never forget your laugh or that sincere smile.
Love you Uncle, rest easy. -Your Nephew, Jonathan Plourde

Our deepest condolences to Gail, Shawn and family and friends at this sad time. I met Syd in the 70,s at Sault College when we were in automotive classes, when we were all out partying Syd always knew when to call it a night. I always admired him for that.Over the years we would bump into each other now and then and we always enjoyed talking about old times and new . Syd was a good man and will always remember him. Rest in peace my old friend.

My goodness, what can I say about Syd. Let me start by saying that through the course of a lifetime we cross many people, too many to count in most cases. But, I can say that only a handful of people have a true impact on one’s character shaping, work ethics, honesty, even the odd nudge in the right direction. They can be teachers, a childhood friend or any other. For me, Syd was one of those people. A first real job is a big deal; Gail and Syd were my first bosses. 15 yrs old pumping gas after school and on weekends, surrounded by the likes of Kelly, Al, Harry, Jo among others. He taught me mutual respect, never look down on others, public relations and what goes around comes around..good or bad. In my case I can say it was good cause trust me he had reason to fire me on one or two occasions but thank God he didn’t. Rest in peace my friend, cause that’s what you are.. a friend before everything else. God bless

Dear Gail
I am so sorry to hear about your dear husband Sydney. I have fond memories of Chapleau and you and my sister Cheryl’s lasting friendship which still continues. Life is so precious and distance does not erase genuine compassion.
The Bible holds out a sure hope for the future at Revelation 21:3,4….”And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”
