This must be so very difficult for all of you. It is a shock when someone that you love goes so quickly. Remember though that there was no pain in his passing. I think he would be thankful for that.
I can remember Rick with much fondness. He was always happy to see us and enjoyed a good visit as much as we did.
May you keep your memories of him close to your heart. I pray that you will find strength and peace during this difficult time.
God bless
Pat Kohtala

Our words cannot express the sorrow we feel after learning of Rick's sudden passing. We have known Rick for 61 years because the Kohtala family were our neighbours in 1957 on Heron Drive. We will certainly miss chatting with him on the street.
To Joyce, Kerri, Kurtis and brother Karl, now that he has gone may all the loving memories of the times you all shared forever hold in your hearts.
Our heartfelt condolences to you all.

I've known Rick and his family for a very long time. The first time I met Rick he was my neighbour on Heron Drive. He knew me since I was a baby. His family moved elsewhere in town when I was very young but the whole family always had a smile for me whenever I would meet up with them. The last several years when Rick moved into the seniors apartments I would often see him wed. afternoons. I would craft with Mrs. Paquette. He always would smile at me and strike up a conversation. Anyone that knows me will know I'm long winded, so our chats were nice. I'd occasionally sit and put a few pieces of his puzzle in with him. I will miss his smile. My deepest condolences to Rick's family.
My heart is heavy, Nikki (Gionet) Reukl

I was saddened to hear of the passing of such a kind man. I have known Rick for many years. A true friend to my father.....Frank. I did some fish stocking and he was my partner. We laughed all day. He was always joking and so soft spoken. Not long ago we laughed together, once more, when he said, “There ain’t no use complaining because no one is listening anyway.” Ahh. Love him. Always in our hearts.
Hugs, The Reiser’s.

So sorry to hear this news. Rick was a great guy who was a lot of fun and I remember him well from our teenage years. I did not know Rick after leaving Manitouwadge all those years ago but I do know he would have grown into a fine man. My condolences to all Rick's family and friends.

So very sorry for your loss. I have fond memories of him, especially when he worked for Commercial and would come in to the Geco office with mail and other deliveries. He always had a big smile and friendly disposition. He loved to "chat" and was full of jokes and humour. Sympathies to all the families. He will be missed,

I have to mirror Kirby’s thoughts as I was with him, Joe, Rick, Mike Liscum on many of those adventures. I think it was rye that was the culprit that time. If it’s the same one I’m thinking of at Algonzon Lake. My condolences to Ricks family. He was far too young.

I would like to extend my condolences to Rick’s family and friends. I grew up with Rick and had many adventures with on various outings with the Anglican Church Boys League during the 1960’s. I moved away in the early 1970’s but attended various reunion over the years and reconnected with Rick At the 50th reunion my wife Janet got to meet Rick and she found him very friendly and warm. As a parting gift Rick gave me a package of frozen Brook Trout as he knew how much I enjoyed fishing from them and eating them.

We sure had some fun times back in the 60's ! Wild days and Rick was always a barrel of laughs. My brother Joe used to hang out with him all the time and spent many an hour in the Capri or Bessy's restaurant. We all loved going out with our .22's shooting at targets, (of many varieties) and having the occasional drink! Ricky didn't care too much for rum after a weekend at one of the lakes! His Honda 65 was a great method of packing supplies into some of the hard to reach spots! Good memories of good times in the old Manitouwadge wild days! Peace Brother!

Rick moved to Manitouwadge in 1957. One of the very first youth pioneers. He lived on his own terms, was kind and generous. A Great brother, uncle, father, grandfather, husband, friend. ( Except to the fish, partridge, moose, and deer ) We will miss him.
