We lived in a house owned by Derek for many years. he was a great landlord; the rent was quite reasonable and he let us fix the place up, paying for all the materials. Derek checked in on things when we we away. It was a good relationship. At work, Derek was quite unassuming but dedicated to his work. His impish grin was a delight to behold. Warm memories. Gerry

My wife and I will always remember Derek for his pleasant way and twinkle in his eye. We both worked with Derek at the MNR and enjoyed seeing him often at the Bignucolo residence. He will be missed.

Both Tom and I have fond memories of Derek.
Tom was a forester, working in the same area as Derek and I worked there as a summer student.
My father Bill MacPhail, and Lawless Cecile and Derek worked at MNR for many years. Lots of laughter in that coffee room. We are very sorry to hear of his passing. We live in Nova Scotia but returned to my high school reunion in Chapleau two years ago and had a visit with Derek. We sat outside and reminisced and it was a special time.
