Obituary of Linda "Jean" Whiteway

WHITEWAY, Jean - It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Linda (Jean) Whiteway on Monday May 15, 2023, at the age of 94 years. Jean passed peacefully with her family by her side at Sante Manitouwadge Health. Jean was predeceased by her husband Harold. She will be dearly missed by her two sons, Randy and David (Lisa), grandchildren, Denika (Drake), Grayson, Ryan, Corrin and great grandchild Kinsley.

Those who knew Jean will remember how generous and welcoming she was. She always welcomed those who came to her home with a drink and snack, she even went out of her way to have a pop and snack for the garbage men on their route. The generosity continued even when moving to the hospital. She made sure to always offer the staff chocolate when they entered her room, or when she passed them in the halls.

Jean spent many winters in Florida and returned to Manitouwadge in the warmer months where she continued to work on her tan relaxing on her deck. Jean took great pride in her yard and worked hard to maintain her flowers on the corner of Redwing. She was known for her beautiful, knitted blankets that she loved to make for all her family and friends.

During Jean’s last few years of life, she struggled with dementia. It brought her family great comfort that even through her battle with this terrible disease, she did not loose her personality, she remained graceful and was pleasantly confused. Up until her last few days Jean would walk the halls of the hospital dressed in her best outfits complete with her jewelry and lipstick.

A memorial service will be held at the Bethany Pentecostal Church on Friday May 19, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Beth and Pastor Reuben Bierworth officiating. Interment will follow at the Manitouwadge Municipal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Sante Manitouwadge Health in her honour would be greatly appreciated.
