To Rebecca,Gisele and Steve's family,I extend to you all my most heartfelt sorrow and condolence.
Dear Rebecca,
We met when you were a toddler and I just want you to know that I'm
shocked and saddened to hear of your dad's passing.I worked with your dad throughout the 80's doing Lake Surveys,Creel Surveys etc.for the MNR in Wawa.In fact,I lived with your mom and dad several of those summers when I wasn't on a lake somewhere.Although your dad and I lost contact in the years since,I have nothing but great memories.

I will forever remember and cherish the friendship and good times I had with Steve ("Speck Lebel") in the late 70s and early 80s. We spent our summers working together in the bush doing lake surveys, fishermen creel surveys and a variety of other interesting jobs while working for the Wawa MNR. Of course on our days off we fished together and shared more than a few beers and laughs with friends.
My deep condolences to Gisele and Steve's family, and friends that were fortunate to have known and spent time with Steve.

We did not know Steve, having only met him once, but we have heard through our daughter that he was a wonderful friend and colleague, one who stood up for others when needed, and made them feel that their work mattered. Those who got to know this special man feel very privileged. He will be missed, but he will not be forgotten.

With heartfelt sadness I would like to offer my sympathy for the loss of Steve. I worked closely with Steve and got to know him over the past 4 years as the biologist in the SSM District. We were both hired at the same time and I, like Steve, worked a long time to achieve my goal as a Management Biologist with MNRF. Steve was a great person to talk to and seeing we were close in age and with similar career paths, it was easy to relate to each other. Whether it was advice based on his great experience or just a friendly conversation, my spirits were always lifted after talking to him. On the various workshops we went on, I always enjoyed his company and his great sense of humour. It could be the most stressful day and Steve always provided words of encouragement and some great laughter. Again, my sympathy for this loss.

Our most heartfelt condolences to all who loved Steve, too many to name. We did not see each other much in the last few years but we are grateful for all the childhood and teenage years of memories. Just like his Dad his sense of humor and his smile will be truly missed. "Gone Fishin"
