Obituary of Leonard Joseph Philion

PHILION, Leonard Joseph – At the age of 79 years, of Chapleau, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Friday February 6, 2026, at the Chapleau General Hospital.

Leonard was born to Paul and Blanche Philion on June 10^th, 1946. He spent his early years as a barber and then worked for Canadian Pacific Railway as a Locomotive Engineer until his retirement, a career he took great pride in.

Leonard is survived by his son, Michel (Tanja) and daughter Lise, his grandchildren, Lyndsey, Ashlynn and step grandchildren Jacob and Jordan. His partner Francine Langelier, and extended family, Vicki, Cindy (Alain), and Stephane. His grandchildren, Tammy (Colin), Stacey, Jeremy, Chloe, Jaxon, and his great granddaughter Ellie.

Leonard passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of laughter and love. He was a skilled handyman who could fix just about anything and was always busy with one project or another.

He enjoyed the freedom of the road, spending time driving his vehicle and traveling whenever he had the chance. At home, Leonard loved cooking and hosting for family. He was also an avid hockey fan and could often be found watching a game, cheering on his favorite team, and enjoying every moment of the action.

Leonard will be remembered for his great sense of humor, and ability to make others smile. His warmth, generosity, and steady presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.

A special thank you goes to the remarkable staff at The Bignucolo Residence who cared for Leonard with such kindness, compassion, and dedication. Your unwavering care meant more to our family than words can express.

At his request, cremation took place at River’s Edge Cremation Centre, Sault Ste. Marie. At this time there will be no funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to a local charity in his honor.

He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
