Please share a memory of John to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

ASTLE, John Everett – At the age of 75 years, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026 at the Wilson Memorial General Hospital in Marathon, Ontario.

He will be dearly missed by his wife of 53 years (Carla) and his daughter Melanie Kelly as well as his son-in-law Aaron and grandchildren Sean and Lana. John had a large and loving family who he called often and who he was fortunate to visit with during the last year of his life, including his brothers Albert (Margaret), Bruce (Betty) and Patrick as well as his sisters Isabel (Claude) Losier, Elizabeth (Robert) Davis and Marie (Tito) Khalil. His morning always began with a phone call to his Aunt Elva Rousselle (Perry). He is survived by many nieces and nephews and extended family as well as many friends from all over Canada, many of whom he met while working as a mine supervisor. Like his mother, he loved to socialize and prided himself on being a loyal and supportive friend and family member. As a miner, he learned everything he could and always prioritized safety for his team and in his daily work. He is predeceased by parents Harrison and Rita (Perry) Astle, his twin brother James Astle, and younger brothers Harrison Astle and Charles Astle.

The family would like to thank the medical staff from the Marathon, Thunder Bay and Windsor Cancer Centre’s for their care over the past year. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in John’s name be made to the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #183, Marathon. Cremation will take place at River’s Edge Cremation Centre, Sault Ste. Marie. Although there will be no funeral, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering in Marathon, Ontario in mid-2026.
