Q: What was Gilbert really good at?
A: I considered Gilbert one of my best boyhood friends while growing up in Oba, Ontario. Gilbert had a great mechanical mind. We spent hours working on bicycles, starting old vehicles and fishing gear.
One of my favourite memories was when he used to raid his sister Margaret’s work smock for cigarettes when she came home from working at the General store. We were not very good smokers from what I recall as we did not make it a lifetime habit! Guess Gilbert’s is best known for accidentally shooting me but was very proud to hear like me joined the Military.
Although, it did not work out for him, I consider him a fellow Veteran and “I will Remember him” on 11 Nov.
RIP my friend. Jimmy Grant, Ottawa ON

Nancy, I am so sorry for your loss. My condolences to you and your family. I so enjoyed working with Gil as we accomplished lots and had so much fun. Remembering his great smile. Rest in peace Swede.
